Congratulations to Two Clients

I'm very happy to congratulate 2 of my clients who received awards on Friday evening from the Chamber of Commerce, at its annual Membership & Awards Dinner at the DoubleTree Hotel in Monrovia. In addition to the awards they received from the Chamber, they also received awards of recognition from Federal, State and local politicians.

Rudy Castrellon's acceptance speech
Rudy shared a very heartfelt acceptance speech.

Rudy Castrellon is the owner of Rudy’s Mexican Food, and he received the Monroe Award for “Business Person of the Year”. It’s easy to see why Rudy won this award. His concept of building his own business starts with building up the community. He is a Board member of the Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board (MOTAB), which hosted Monrovia’s first annual New Years Eve party last month in Old Town. Rudy is also the president of the Monrovia Cinco De Mayo Association which hosted a very successful first annual Cinco de Mayo Multicultural Arts & Music Festival in 2011 (The 2012 party will be on April 29). Those are just a couple of his achievements this last year.

Part of Rudy’s success in his own business is that he is a hands-on restaurant owner and he personally gets to know as many customers as he can. Want to meet Rudy? Stop by his restaurant any day on Myrtle and Colorado in Monrovia, where you’ll always get good service and good food.

Gloria Huss receives recognition from Assembly Member Anthony Portantino
Gloria receives recognition from Assembly Member Anthony Portantino.

Gloria Huss is the owner of Monrovia Floral, and she received the Dick Lord Award for outstanding contributions to the Chamber. Gloria is another person who is always doing things to build up the community around her business. She does so much behind the scenes for the Chamber, including promoting membership and volunteering at various events. Even though she was a guest of honor on Friday evening, she was there early at the hotel helping to set up and then to sell VIP tickets (a great deal to attend all of the Chamber's networking evenings in the coming year).

In a world where it’s easy to grab a bunch of flowers while shopping for milk, Gloria’s floral team provides a personal touch with every bouquet, and will quickly pick up the phone to ask about personal preferences –even for online orders. She has introduced many green initiatives in her shop, and will give discounts for returned flower vases. Gloria is also passionate about helping abandoned cats and dogs. She even has cat food at the back of her shop to feed stray cats. Here's an article I wrote for the Chamber of Commerce about Gloria's business.
